Tom Bevan: Democrats Are Positioning Themselves, Privately Plotting A Plan If Biden Seeks Second Term

RCP’s Tom Bevan said Tuesday night to FOX News host Laura Ingraham that Democrats are positioning themselves for a plan if President Biden decides to seek a second term.

“There’s no question that Biden is definitely weak and you throw on top of it his age being the oldest president, currently would be way older than anyone to run again and he is in a very, very weak spot and I think you see that’s why Democrats are positioning themselves and looking for — hoping that he’s not going to run again but privately plotting for a plan if he does decide to try to run again,” Bevan said.

LAURA INGRAHAM, FOX NEWS: Has there ever been a modern president in this position that Biden finds himself in?

TOM BEVAN, REAL CLEAR POLITICS: Well, hard to say. I mean, there are two that come to mind obviously LBJ in ’68 right dropped out after the New Hampshire primary. He was facing Eugene McCarthy, an anti-war candidate. He was afraid he wasn’t going to win the nomination. And then you had Jimmy Carter, right, who got a challenge from Ted Kennedy. Ted Kennedy won 12 contests in that primary, and took it all the way to the convention, which is the last time that we had a contested convention.

Carter and LBJ both had approval ratings around Biden, where Biden was. Carter had inflation numbers, gas lines, rationing, all that. So a lot of similarities there. There’s no question that Biden is definitely weak and you throw on top of it his age being the oldest president, currently would be way older than anyone to run again and he is in a very, very weak spot and I think you see that’s why Democrats are positioning themselves and looking for — hoping that he’s not going to run again but privately plotting for a plan if he does decide to try to run again…

Biden wants to take credit for the good parts of the economy and blame all the bad parts of the economy on Putin and I just don’t think that’s going to sell with voters particularly independent voters in November.
