Bills preseason fan favorite RB heading to Panthers’ 53-man roster

Raheem Blackshear, the undrafted free agent running back that became a Bills Mafia fan favorite, has a new home.

The Carolina Panthers signed Blackshear off of the Buffalo Bills’ practice squad on Wednesday, according to Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network.

After going undrafted in this year’s draft, Buffalo signed the former Virginia Tech running back. Blackshear arrived in Buffalo and immediately made a name for himself this summer. In addition to making plays on the field for the team at St. John Fisher University at Bills training camp, Blackshear was one of Buffalo’s most impressive players this preseason.

In three games, Blackshear rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns on 24 attempts (4.8 YPC) while hauling in eight receptions for 93 yards.

Despite playing well in the preseason, there was not room for Blackshear on the 53-man roster with the team having Devin Singletary, James Cook, Zack Moss and special teams standout Taiwan Jones claiming spots at the position. Buffalo was able to sign Blackshear to their practice squad after he went unclaimed on waivers, but he did not last long with the Bills.

In Carolina, Blackshear will compete for playing time behind the likes of Christian McCaffrey, D’Onta Freeman and Chuba Hubbard.
