Albany-Saratoga Speedway hosts Super DIRTcar Series special on Friday



The Super DIRTcar Series returns to action Friday night when the Albany-Saratoga Speedway hosts a 71-lap, $7,500-to-win special for DIRT big-block modifieds.

A look at the SDS standings finds the top four drivers separated by just 42 points. But that’s sure to change Friday because leader Stewart Friesen will be at the Nashville (Tennessee) Speedway for a NASCAR Truck Series event.

Canadian Mat Williamson is currently in the second position, but Max McLaughlin and Matt Sheppard are third and fourth, and any of this trio of top runners could take a big jump in the standings this week.

The A-S track is a 4/10-mile clay oval in Malta (north of Albany) and race time is 7 p.m.

DEMO DERBY: If automobiles smashing and crashing into each other is your thing, the Brewerton Speedway will be the place to be this Friday evening. The popular Route 11 track will be running a $1,000-to-win demolition derby. The 3/8-mile clay oval will also have sportsman, mod lite and four-cylinder racing, but the big-block modifieds have the night off. Race time is 7 p.m.

OUTLAW: The Outlaw Speedway in Dundee opens its Summer Kickoff Series on Friday night with 1-on-1 spectator races added to the regular weekly classes.

UTICA-ROME: The CRSA Sprint Tour has a Friday night stop at the Utica-Rome Speedway on Friday night, with the victor pocketing a $1,000 check. U-R’s regular weekly classes will also be competing, topped off with a 30-lap main event for modifieds.

TRUCKS: The NASCAR Trucks have 200-mile event set for Friday night at the Nashville Speedway. Sprakers’ Stewart Friesen and his Halmar Toyota currently sit in sixth place in the standings. The race will be shown live on Fox Sports 1 at 8 p.m. Friday.

CLOSED: Both the Fulton and Oswego Speedways will be closed this weekend for high school graduations.

FONDA: Earl Halaquist was a six-time United Racing Club sprint car champion who won 53 URC features in the 1960s. On Saturday night, the Fonda Speedway will be running a Earl Halaquist Memorial race in honor of this Sidney racer. The Patriot Sprint Tour will be running a 30-lap feature, paying $3,000 to the victor. The Short Track Super Series mods will also be on hand.

LoL: It’s midseason championship night this Saturday at the Land of Legends Speedway in Canandaigua. DIRT big-block modifieds, sportsman, 305 sprints and street and hobby stocks will all be in action. Race time is 6:30 p.m.

HUSETS: The biggest motorsports event in South Dakota history is set for this week when the World of Outlaws Sprint Tour runs four straight night’s of racing on the one-third-mile Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, South Dakota. Following three nights of preliminary programs Wednesday through Friday, Saturday night’s High Banks Nationals finale carries a huge $100,000 payoff for the victor.
